The game between Esai, Ranbaxy, Teva and FDA for Aricept

I have came across a nice compiled study of the Aricept case. Recently Ranbaxy got the approval and entitled 180 days exclusivity and Teva's generic launch was delayed until the expiry of 180 days exclusivity of Ranbaxy.

Ranbaxy got final approval for Aricept

Indian pharma major, Ranbaxy got the final approval from USFDA for marketing of Aricept generic version. Additionally Ranbaxy holds the 180 day exclusivity for this product which will allow them to sell the generic version in US market without any other generic competition. Therefore Ranbaxy expecting US $200 million from this 180 days selling of generic version of Aricept. Aricept is the brand name containing Donepezil as active ingredient and is used for Alzheimer's disease.

Ranbaxy sues AstraZeneca for Nexium patents

One of the pharma major from India, Ranbaxy sues AstraZeneca for patent related to product, NEXIUM in United Kindom. Ranbaxy stated that the european patents related to NEXIUM, which is used for the treatment of ulcers are invalid and therefore the marketing or selling of its product will not initiate any infringement of the said patents.
NEXIUM is the brand name for the active esomeprazole which is a proton pump inhibitor and prescribed for the treatment of dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD/GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Ranbaxy caught for false patent marking

One of the largest Indian pharmaceutical firm, Ranbaxy could get damaged by law suit for maintaining an expired patent `652 on pack insert of product Exelderm (Sulconazole nitrate). The patent `652 had already expired in October 1996. Ranbaxy could be charged for false patent marking.

This is the second case in this month after the case of Watson lab where the company has listed expired patents for its Androderm testosterone deficiency treatment.
